Remember: You are magic today, tomorrow and every day

Now, before I get sidetracked, let’s dive into my story of the month.
This month, I’m sharing a moment that reminded me that I need to have patience with myself, especially when starting something new.

Key Takeaways

  • Be patient with yourself; just because it’s taking time doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

  • Focus on the progress that you have made. Write it so it’s there in black and white

  • Trust yourself

  • Speak up. Remember to share your challenges with your support circle (friends, family, partner, etc.)

  • It won’t happen overnight, but if you quit, it won’t happen at all.

The decision to start something new is freeing!
It’s also overwhelming, scary and, I won’t lie, sometimes frustrating.

At the start of the year, I experienced a severe frustration wave. I’m talking, crying, questioning myself and that loud inner critic making herself heard, asking me, “What the f*ck are you doing?”

My boyfriend noticed my frustration; maybe the crying gave it away, I guess hiding in our room didn’t work.
He immediately had a loving, but stern, talk with me.

His words allowed me to internalise that I can be too hard on myself at times and that I don’t give myself credit for the improvements I have made and the work I am doing.

Having a conversation with someone else who wasn’t my inner critic allowed me to quickly remember that I need to be patient with myself and know that I am in a better place than I was last year, six months ago, or even one week ago!

Just because it’s taking time doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

In frustrating times, it’s important to remember that, like me, you are taking steps to improve your life. I focused on the progress that I had actually made. Following our conversation, I wrote down everything I had done, so it was there in black and white, right in front of me.

There was no denying it; I was hustling.

Although I felt like I was not doing much, acknowledging what I had done showed me that I was not giving myself enough credit.

It became clear that I was taking the right steps to set myself up for success. Yes, it takes time, but it’s happening!

I realised that I had to trust myself and the process.

Having someone remind me when I forget is helpful too.

So this is my friendly reminder to you.
You are setting the foundations and watering the seeds. Be patient; the results will come.

My monthly challenge is to give yourself a tight and loving squeeze, allow yourself to acknowledge your successes (write them down if it’s helpful, it works) and keep going; you are progressing, believe it. It won’t happen overnight, but if you quit, it won’t happen at all.

Translation: Just because it’s not happening when you expect it to happen doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. What’s yours will find you at the right time and in the right way.
