Your Monthly Dose to Happiness

#2 Believe in Your Capabilities, Don’t Limit Yourself

Hi there,

Happy Monday! I hope you’re having a wonderful day and that your week continues to get better.

Remember: You are magic today, tomorrow and every day

This month, I’m sharing a moment that reminded me that I’m already capable of achieving the things I want and sometimes I’m the biggest barrier to my success as I fall into my mind’s traps and place obstacles in my path.

Key Takeaways

  • We subconsciously play mind tricks on ourselves, placing obstacles in the way of our dreams without a valid reason.

  • There are some things you’ll need to do, but many of the things you’ve put on your to-do list will simply be excuses you place on yourself, delaying your leap.

  • It’s scary, but you are capable; believe in yourself.

Have you ever truly wanted to do something in life—a big change, a new project, a move? But you’ve not yet gotten around to it because you need to do something else before you can take that leap to get to what you truly want.

Maybe, like I did, you’ve told yourself that first, you need:

  • To get another certification

  • To read more about the topic

  • To learn the language

  • To learn a new skill

  • To get feedback from 1000 people

I didn’t realise I was doing this until I read about it.

For me, it was a real lightbulb moment💡It became so obvious that I was the one placing barriers on myself.

I was telling myself, without even realising it, that I needed to complete x before I could get to y.

It made me feel better that it wasn’t just me who played tricks on themselves without consciously realising it, I hope you feel some comfort in knowing this too.

Why was I putting off the leap?

Because the leap is scary.

It’s funny how our brain works. It tells us we need x before we can get to y, and we accept it without questioning ourselves because “it makes sense.”

It makes sense because I was scared of the leap. What if I failed and fell short? My brain figured I needed protection from myself, my ideas, and my dreams; that way, instead of failing, I’d keep the dream safely locked up in my mind, so there’s no risk, right?

And that’s when the full list of all the things I needed to do before I could get to achieving what I wanted appeared, clear in my mind. Telling me that I will get there eventually, but not yet. First, I have to do a lot.

That moment was a wake-up call for me. I put down my book and I sat down with my notebook and pen. I tasked myself with figuring out what I needed to get to where I wanted to be vs. the obstacles I was placing on my path as a way to put off the leap.

Take the leap

There are some things you’ll need to do before you can get to the y but there are also so many things you can cross off the list, as some things will simply be excuses delaying your leap.

I experienced this.

What did I do?

I reduced my long list of to-dos, gave myself a timeline and set clear milestones I needed to achieve. And I told myself, once that’s done—ready or not—I'm leaping!

PS: Starting this newsletter was a leap for me, and I’m so glad I’m here! Soon, I’ll be ready for my next leap and I can’t wait to share it with you.

My monthly challenge is to consider what “leaps” you are putting off taking. Sit down with yourself and consider what truly needs to be done vs. what your obstacles and mind tricks are. Once you have your real list, set your timeline and get going. I believe in you.
