Sometimes the thing you least want to do is exactly what you need
On showing up anyway, and that feeling after.
Sometimes doing the thing you really don't feel like doing is the best thing you can do.
Sounds counterintuitive? If you don't want to do it, just don't do it.
Well, sometimes that is the right answer. But other times? Definitely not.
Postpartum, I've had an interesting relationship with the gym.
For those who don't know me, before having a baby, I was there 4+ times a week and absolutely loving it. Now I've committed – a commitment I made to myself – to go twice a week for a proper workout and to move every single day.
For the last two weeks, every time gym day comes around, I think and sometimes say out loud:
noooo I don't really want to go today. I'm tired. I'll go tomorrow. It's okay if I skip today.
But my wonderful husband, and the part of me that remembers the commitment I made, tells me to push through. Just turn up and see what happens.
And without fail, every time I turn up – I turn up.
I get my workout in, and I feel f*cking amazing. Excuse my language, but I need to emphasise: I get that feeling EVERY SINGLE TIME.
It's becoming a little game – no, don't go – okay, we're going – YES, WE FEEL AMAZING. And while I hope the internal argument stops soon, what matters is that I show up. And every time I do, I feel good. No, I feel amazing.
So yes, consider this your little reminder: sometimes the thing you really don't want to do is absolutely the thing you should be doing.
That thing just popped into your head, didn't it? Go do it. You've got this.
Shine bright,
Nadia 💛
