The biggest thing that’s changed since moving to the US
On change, and still being fundamentally you.
Although I now live in San Diego, I'm not American. I'm actually Spanish/Grenadian and grew up with a British education — but we'll keep my background story for another newsletter... or if you're really curious now, you can ask me :)
Anyway... I spent the weekend with friends who I haven't seen in a while (it filled my heart!). And they were curious to know what the biggest difference I'd noticed since moving to the US was.
Clothes.
As in the clothes I wear.
They laughed, I laughed, and we went on with our conversation.
The next day, I went to breakfast in my athleisure wear – nothing fancy, black Nike leggings and a black top. One of my friends looked at me and genuinely asked me, "Oh wow – are you going for a run?!"
I chuckled because:
I've given up my running shoes
Nooo this is just how I dress now
Then we both laughed. But I was reminded that what has become so normal to me now in the US is not at all the norm over here (I’m writing from Spain).
And it's true! Before moving to the US, I only wore athletic wear when I was going to the gym (or for a run); “athleisure wear” was not even part of my vocabulary.
Now, it's part of the daily rotation. It's comfortable, easy to throw on, and I don't have to think too much about what I'm going to wear.
I do still wear other normal clothes and enjoy making an effort – but I also love to be comfy.
So yeh, that's the biggest change :) and a reminder that we are always changing. We go through seasons, and we adapt to our current environments, but it doesn't change who we are fundamentally.
I might dress differently sometimes, but I'm still me. I’m still intentional about the decisions I make to support the life I want to live – and in this season, athleisure wear is working for me. 😄
And I still had an amazing time with my friends, even in my leggings!
Shine bright,
Nadia 💛
