Your Monthly Dose to Happiness
#15 Happiness is a Choice
Hello Sunshine,
Happy Monday and welcome to a brand-new month!
Remember: You are magic—today, tomorrow, and every day.
This month, I’m here to gently nudge you towards choosing happiness. Yes, happiness is a choice—your choice—and it’s a choice you shouldn’t waste.
Key Takeaways
Happiness is a choice. We have the power to choose happiness every day, and aligning our expectations with reality is key to experiencing it.
Small changes lead to big shifts. Simple, intentional actions—like limiting negativity or prioritising self-care—can lead to more established moments of happiness.
Surround yourself with positivity. Be mindful of the people and content you engage with, ensuring they uplift and inspire you.
Self-awareness is essential for happiness. Understanding what makes you happy and focusing on what aligns with your strengths can bring more joy into your life.
Take control of your energy. Your energy affects those around you. Make conscious choices to bring positivity into your life and share it with others.
Happiness is available to every single person, but not every single person is happy. Why?
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I’m a huge believer in happiness. It’s my purpose to guide others toward their own path of happiness, and the more I explore it, the more fascinating and fulfilling I find it.
Happiness isn’t a destination. It’s not a constant state of feeling, and it’s certainly not about finding that one thing that will always make you happy. Please, don’t fall for the myth that people can be happy all the time; it’s just not realistic.
So, What Is Happiness?
Happiness is achieved when we make a conscious choice to be happy and when our expectations match our reality. We must choose to do things that will bring us joy, and align our expectations with the reality we’re living in.
It sounds simple, right?
Happiness can be felt through small things like smiling at your neighbour and getting a smile back, or bigger things like having the offer accepted on the home you wanted.
Happiness Is a Choice
We must choose to do things that will make us happy, and we have to make this choice to align our expectations with our realities.
Take me, for example: I may dream of being a singer, but believe me, that’s not happening (trust me, I’ve heard myself sing!). So instead of holding on to a dream that doesn’t align with my reality, I focus on the skills I do have to bring me happiness.
What Is Your Choice?
I consider myself a happy person. I actively choose to focus on the positive, to learn from the challenges I face, and to make choices that enhance my joy. The pandemic sparked this intentional shift in my life. I started making small, meaningful changes that led to moments of happiness, and those moments have only grown.
Some of the things I did:
I stopped watching the news and started reading more books
I started a gratitude list and shared experiences with others more frequently
I started working out for myself
I stopped following people on social media who no longer served me and started following feel-good accounts
I stopped engaging in conversations where nothing could be solved and started speaking with people who inspired me
I stopped watching horror movies and started watching more comedy
I’m not suggesting you close yourself off from the world or avoid difficult topics. But be intentional about what you consume—keep yourself informed without drowning in negativity.
I firmly believe that if each of us made small, intentional changes in the pursuit of happiness, the world would be a much brighter place.
We all can choose happiness; why don’t we do it?

My monthly challenge is to make happiness a conscious choice. Notice when something doesn’t feel good, and stop doing it. If something lights you up, do more of it. Your energy ripples out to everyone around you, so let’s make it good.

Book recommendations that have supported my journey:
Each month, I share three book recommendations. Expect a mix of fiction and non-fiction. I’ve personally read each one, and they’ve all brought something meaningful to me, whether that’s a fresh perspective, a good laugh, or a quiet moment of reflection.
Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert. This book explores how our minds often misjudge what will truly make us happy. Blending psychology, humour and storytelling, Gilbert dives into how self-awareness and embracing uncertainty can lead to more authentic, aligned choices. I found it eye-opening, a beautiful reminder that happiness isn’t about chasing perfection but about being present with what is.
Do Nothing by Celeste Headlee. A brilliant and much-needed reminder of the power of slowing down. Headlee unpacks how our obsession with productivity can actually harm our wellbeing and shares practical ways to reset our boundaries and redefine success. This one really shifted how I think about rest and “doing nothing”.
Kitchen Soup for the Soul by Amy Newmark, Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen. I might be late to the party, but this classic is a treasure. A heartwarming collection of short stories that had me laughing, crying, and feeling deeply grateful. There are many themed editions, pick the one that speaks to you.
Other resources that have supported my journey:

Hi, I’m Nadia!
I started my personal growth journey when I realised that, even with all I’d achieved, I wasn’t truly clear on what I wanted. That sparked a deep dive into self-discovery, and along the way, I discovered and studied tools that helped me reconnect with myself, and now I support other women to do the same.
If you’re ready to find more clarity, book a free discovery call, I’d love to support you.
