#19 Would you erase your most painful moments?

Hello Sunshine,

How are you doing?

If you’ve been feeling like you need a little extra support or permission to slow down, remember the Shine Bright Resource Library, is always there for you. It’s your space to pause and reset. No pressure, no perfection, just gentle support for wherever you’re at.

Remember: You are magic today, tomorrow and every day.

This months reflection, what would you do if you could erase your most traumatic experience?

Key Takeaways

  • Our painful experiences often shape our growth, perspective and strength.

  • Most people, when asked, wouldn’t erase their trauma because it helped shape who they are today.

  • Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means learning, honouring, and moving forward with more intention.

  • Your journey is your own. And there is power in choosing to keep every chapter, even the hard ones.

I was listening to a podcast recently, and something Mo Gawdat shared really stuck with me. He spoke about a research experiment he led at Google X, where they asked over 12,000 people if they would choose to erase their most traumatic experience.

99.99% said no.

You might think that sounds surprising, or maybe not. Of course, in the moment, none of us want to go through pain. It’s uncomfortable, heartbreaking, and isolating. So if we had the chance to take it all away, why wouldn’t we?

But here’s the thing:
If you erased the experience, not just the memory, but the entire thing, would you be where you are now?

We’ve all heard of the butterfly effect. And our most painful moments can act just like that.
The moment you lived and survived became a catalyst. It shaped who you are, what you stand for, what you value, and how you connect with others.

You survived it.
And not only did you survive, but you’ve grown. You’re here now, living a different chapter, maybe even thriving in ways you never expected.

You might still carry that experience with you, but it no longer defines you.

All our experiences—the joyful, the boring, the heartbreaking, and the healing—make up our story. They shape the way we walk through the world. They show us what we’re capable of. And they are what make us beautifully, fully human.

My monthly challenge before wishing you could erase your past, reflect on this:

  • Who did you meet that you can’t imagine not having in your life now?

  • What did you learn about yourself that made you fight for what you believe in?

  • What did you learn about others that allowed you to see who would be there for you, even in tough times?

  • What has changed in your life thanks to that experience?

Hit reply and let me know what you think.

Shine bright.

Monthly book recommendations:

Each month, I share three books that have sparked something for me. Whether that’s a new perspective, a quiet nudge, or a proper belly laugh. Here's this month's mix:

  • Maybe you should talk to someone by Lori Gottlieb. A thoughtful, funny, and honest take on therapy and being human.

  • Think Again by Adam Grant. A powerful reminder that changing your mind can be a superpower, not a weakness.

  • Culture Map by Erin Meyer. Especially great if you work across cultures, travel, or just want to understand others better.

Hi, I’m Nadia!

I started my personal growth journey when I realised that, even with all I’d achieved, I wasn’t truly clear on what I wanted. That sparked a deep dive into self-discovery, and along the way, I discovered and studied tools that helped me reconnect with myself, and now I support other women to do the same.

If you’re ready to find more clarity, book a free discovery call, I’d love to support you.
